Chapter 8
Theo headed towards the skeleton. It is wearing a rusted set of full plate armor, including a helmet. In its right gauntleted hand was a rusted short sword. In the eye sockets, a green light was visible. It turned to face Theo slowly. They both got into striking range. Its first strike was aimed at his left side. He used the chain on his left arm, which he had fashioned into a makeshift gauntlet, as sparks from the contact between the rusted short sword and the chain gauntlet slid along the makeshift gauntlet. Theo’s left hand cracked it across its helmeted head. A jolt of pain snaked down from his hand to the base of his spine. The skeleton staggered back. He summoned the cane sword and imbued it with the Cure Wounds spell. And then lunged at the skeleton. The skeleton brought up its sword. The clash of wood and rusted steel clanged in the air, and he knocked away the skeleton's sword and bashed it in the neck with the magic of Cure Wounds. The green glow dimmed in its eye sockets and spasmed for a second; using that moment of distraction, he used the chain on his left arm to wrap around the skeleton's sword arm up to the forearm; again, he imbued the cane sword with Cure Wounds and hit the skeleton's neck with all his might and cracked the spine at the base of the skull, Theo used Cure Wounds on the skeleton two more times, the green glow in the eye sockets finally extinguished.

Continuing to the following skeleton, Theo used the Inspect skill as well, and it was level 8, also wearing a full plate. The only difference was that this one had a polearm instead of a sword. Theo had the chain out and extended it to 3 feet on his left arm. Briskly walking towards the skeleton and the skeleton charging at him, doing a broad sweep with its polearm, Theo wrapped the chain around the polearm, knocking it off-balance. The chain released the skeleton, and it skidded across the cobblestones as it came back to him, the rest of it wrapping itself around his arm. Using the chain and the cane sword, he imbued them with the Cure Wounds spell and bashed the skeleton on the back of the helmet. The rusted metal gave way, and as soon as the spell touched the bone, the skeletal knight spasmed, recasting the spell several times. After the fourth one, the knight quit thrashing.

He saw no other undead in the area, so he investigated the tiny houses on either side of the street. Walking into the dilapidated building, Theo saw a small, broken table and chairs; behind it was a small kitchenette. Looking around, there is nothing of value. Heading towards the other side of the house, there were some bedrooms, debris, and smashed beds and furniture—again, nothing of value. Checking out a few different homes, Theo found the same: broken rooms, smashed furniture, and nothing of value. He headed deeper into the residential area. He came up and saw there were two skeletons next to each other. Trying to back away, it was too late; they spotted him. Using the Inspect skill on them quickly reveals that both are level 8 skeletons. Thinking of a plan, all four chains unraveled from his arms and legs, landing on the ground, and he backpedaled. While the skeletons were getting closer, when they stepped over the chains, one of the chains was wrapped around the legs of one of the skeletons, and another chain did the same to the other skeleton. With that momentum, they fell helmet-first into the cobblestones. The other two chains wrapped around their arms, and he spent a couple of minutes bashing their rusted helmets with the cane sword, being imbued with Cure Wounds.

He released the skeletons from the chains. They slithered like snakes on the ground, traveling up his body and coiling around his arms and legs. Using the cane as its intended purpose, he leaned heavily on it, a splitting headache plaguing his mind.

“God, that made the fight easy, but trying to multitask by using all four chains plus acting on my own at once, fuck, my head hurts; that is a no-go at the moment,” Theo thought.
He used a healing touch on himself, and after a while, he returned to normal. Then he looked at the notifications. You have killed…

At the end of the street were three skeletons; two of them had short swords, and the third had a polearm. He sighed,
“All right, let’s do this.” Theo thought
Theo uses the Inspect skill, skeletal swordsmen level 9, skeletal swordsmen level 9, and skeletal polearm level 9.
He used Target Healing and focused on the one with the polearm, casting three consecutive Target Healings. The spells hit the armor, and the rusty armor absorbed them. After the third hit, the three skeletons started to charge at Theo, using the cane sword and imbuing it with the Cure Wounds spell. One with the polearm was in the middle, and the two with short swords were on his flanks. The one on his right went in with the jab; he parried the sword, using the chain wrapped around his left hand and forearm like a gauntlet. Going for a feint on the one on the right, he then uses his makeshift gauntlet to lunge and hit the one on the left in the torso through its guard. The one with the polearm in front of him was a vertical strike to split him down the middle. He dodged it by turning to the right side; the polearm went inches from his face. He grabbed the polearm with his left hand, forcing the knight to stumble as it went down. Before he could take advantage of the opening, the skeleton on his left cut towards his torso; using the chains on his left hand, parrying it with sparks flying as the sword danced across his forearm, going past the makeshift gauntlet and up to his elbow, taking a deep gash, wincing in pain, and doing a Spartan kick to the one on the right, pushing it back, using Healing Touch on himself at the same time, acting like he was going towards the one with the polearm, feinting the strike, on his left arm extended out in the chain lashed out and wrapped around the one on the left, tossing that knight to the one on his right, and they both went down. Capitalizing on that moment, he rushed the knight with the polearm and, with the imbued cane sword, broke through the rusted helmet and hit the skeleton’s skull with the stunning effect of Cure Wounds on the skeleton; he was able to hit it two more times, and finally the green light in its eye sockets extinguished. Focusing on the other two, the skeletons were finally getting up, grabbing the closest one with his chain by wrapping it around its leg and dragging it towards him; as the skeleton was flailing around, Theo got hit several times and got a few strikes in, and the other one charged him, stepping back from the skeleton the chain was still wrapped around one of its legs with a casual toss Theo through the skeletal knight to the right of him. The skeleton knight landed in a dilapidated house on the right of the cobbled street. And went through the front wall. As it crashed through the wooden wall, the roof caved in. The skeleton was charging him, using that moment to imbue his strike with the Cure Wounds spell, bashing it on its helmet. As the skeleton went past, Theo and the knight went down. Using that moment, Theo used the chain on his left arm to pin the skeleton’s right arm, which held the sword, and he was able to deliver two more strikes, caving in the rusty helmet and ending the undead's existence. He breathed heavily. He saw that his stamina was down to a quarter. The skeleton took half a minute to extricate itself from the wreckage and charge him. Dodging the lunging strike, he smacked the skeleton across the back with the sword cane, causing it to stumble, and Theo took advantage, extending the chain on his left hand around the skeleton's neck and pulling it forward towards him. Causing the skeleton to become off-balance, he delivers three solid strikes across its rusted helmet, caving in the skeleton's skull through the helmet. The eerie green glow in the eye sockets fades away, leaving Theo gasping for breath. It took him a minute to regain his stamina, so it didn’t feel like he was about to pass out, and then he healed himself.
