DMS Chapter 23

  DMS Chapter 23

Alone at the tower, Flinx started studying how he could teleport long distances, but based on what he had learned about the Teleport spell, it was simple enough. He just needed to be very familiar with the place he wanted to teleport to. That meant that once he started traveling deep into the forest, he could immediately go home by using the Teleport spell. That relieved him a little because it made his traveling very convenient.

Now, the only thing that he needed to make sure of was to be very familiar with his new home. Not the tower, but the area, since the tower was a temporary construct. At first, he planned to leave the next day to begin his journey of committing genocide against the monsters of this world for the sake of leveling up, but then he might need to spend a day or even a couple of days to make sure that he was familiar with his new home. Flinx didn’t want any mishap to happen when he started teleporting.

That night, Flinx couldn’t sleep. He was anxious and excited about the next phase of his life. He wondered if his spell defenses were good enough. He started reading the spells available to him. He read them repeatedly until he was almost familiar with each one of them. Then he started reading discussions about which spells were the best depending on the situation, to the point that some forumers actually invited him to join their fantasy role-playing tabletop game campaign. The problem was, most campaigners wanted to meet up somewhere, but then he found something amazing. Online said game campaigns. He immediately joined one and, of course, he played as a wizard.

The next time he checked the time, the campaign that he was in was put on hold and would continue after a week. It was already noon the next day. Flinx didn’t regret the time that he had wasted because he had learned a lot of things that could be applied to his spellcasting.

Flinx then took a relaxing hot bath in his washroom and then ate lunch that he ordered from his shopping site. After that, he went outside and started enjoying his home’s location. One thing he could say was that it was almost like a fairy park. The trees that surrounded the tower made the place cool, and the beautiful wild flowers that grew between the trees made the place smell lovely and refreshing. The cacophony of small animals and birds added to the sweetness of the feeling that one would encounter when resting in the area.

After several minutes of familiarizing himself with the place, Flinx doubted that he could differentiate the place from any other beautiful park-like place in the forest. He needed a landmark. Or better yet, something to refer to. He then thought of purchasing a camera, a smartphone, or a tablet. He decided on a tablet since the tablet’s screen would be big enough to view the pictures that he would take of the place.

Flinx exchanged 10 low-level mana stones into dollars on his system shopping site and bought an 800 dollars Android tablet and a small charger that used solar power to store power. He would need it to charge the tablet. Based on the reviews, it had the best camera, and the solar charger was reliable enough.

At first, Flinx was very excited to start operating the tablet since he thought that maybe his system would allow him to connect the device to the internet, but unfortunately, the internet connection remained a dream. He could still use the tablet as a camera, though, so he started taking a lot of pictures of his new home.

The author's content has been appropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

That afternoon, Flinx turned himself into a photographer, combing the whole place for the best location where he could take pictures. After several minutes of picture taking, he would then review the photos that he took, delete those that he found ugly, and then start again.

While busy taking pictures, the old priest, Anuel, arrived together with several children. Apparently, that day was supposed to be the day of the week for him to tell stories. Since the storytelling didn’t take much time, Flinx immediately kept the tablet in his 4th tab space and followed Anuel back to the church.

Without any delay, Flinx went to the pulpit at the front and started his storytelling, which was just him reading fairy tale stories from the internet. He made sure to tell it slowly and clearly, and interspersed the storytelling with casting of the Minor Illusion spell to bring out the images that would relate to the current story that he was telling. Mostly, he would just show images of magical castles, large moving oceans, the silhouette of the protagonist and villains, and more such things. Flinx knew that the spellcasting was why his storytelling was sought after by the nearby townsfolk.

Flinx didn’t even mind that Anuel was taking advantage of his storytelling by passing out the collection bowl. Churches needed funds, too. Once the allotted time of storytelling was over, he announced to everyone that he wouldn’t be continuing the storytelling because he would be busy with adventuring.

Many of the townsfolk complained, but Flinx told everyone that he was not a minstrel or a bard. His main profession was an adventurer, and he needed to go back to that. He told everyone that the only reason he started telling the stories of his homeland was to practice his local language skills. Everyone looked sad, especially the children, and it made Flinx a little guilty.

To alleviate his guilt, Flinx promised everyone that he would compile the stories that he had been telling into a book and would give the book to Anuel so the priest could continue telling the stories.

A lot of the kids complained, saying that the priest didn’t know magic, but Flinx just reiterated that he needed to go back to adventuring.

Anuel took over the discussion and made sure that everyone accepted Flinx’s decision, especially when the old priest told everyone that he didn’t charge for his stories and that they were taking advantage of Flinx’s kindheartedness and generosity for sharing the stories of his homeland with them.

Once the townsfolk left, the old priest invited Flinx to talk.

“Are you sure that you want to go to the forest to kill monsters? It’s really dangerous there,” The old priest asked.

“I need to do it, since that's the only way for me to increase my powers. Increasing my power is the only way for me to be able to find my way back to where I came from.”

Flinx didn’t elaborate further and stopped with that. After that, his discussion with the old priest turned to the mundane and the everyday lives of the people nearby.

Flinx found it funny that the closest person he had in this new world was an old priest. He felt that it was a blessing in disguise since Anuel had the temperament to advise him. He may not be a therapist, but he was the closest thing that Flinx had. Of course, the only talks that they had pertained to generic things, like advice an old man would give to someone young who was just about to set out into the world. Flinx just couldn’t share any of the things that he had experienced when he was a slave in the wizards’ world. He didn’t want to see any sort of pity in the eyes of the old priest, or anyone else, for that matter.
