Ch. 23 - Misery Recovery

"Pretty nice place you have." Julia commented, having arrived with the crew to his home.

"Thanks." Hiroshi muttered, as he moved to start cooking, as Nata and Olivia went to relax in the living room. "If you don't mind, you will be taking the sofa for a while."

"Sure, better than concrete floor." She said with light smirk, as she leaned onto kitchen counter, giving him enough space to work.

"Also, anything I need to account for you?" He asked calmly, making sure to get to understand her better.

"No, but I do need plenty of nutrients. Even with my good looks, it is still a rotting corpse. Otherwise, if I don't get enough food, I'd deteriorate until good as dead." She said, making her position clear.

"Says the one who nearly made me into one." Hiroshi noted with a teasing smirk, showing that he took the trouble she put him in lightheartedly.

"Right." Julia replied, returning a smirk, before thinking about something she was curious about.

"Speaking of. I have heard only of couple that have been able to return from other side, let alone a human. You must have some kind of story behind how you were able to avoid trouble in there." Julia noted, clearly wanting to hear about his experience, but Hiroshi quickly gave a light look of worry, before trying to act calm.

"I... I just have some knowledge thanks to a friend... I'd prefer not to talk about it." He admitted, which just made Julia sigh in disappointment, but she understood his privacy.

"It's fine if you don't tell me. It has been forever since I myself had to deal with those death angels. Nothing but selfish bunch, i'd say." she noted, which made him lightly chuckle in agreement.

"But it is their life, after all." he admitted in return, meanwhile from the living room sofa, Nata and Olivia were curiously sneaking an ear and look into the kitchen, wondering what they mean by death angels.

Julia took note of the eavesdroppers, and deciding to leave Hiroshi to his cooking, decided to get to know the two better.

"So, Nice to get to know you Olivia, and I have already heard plenty about you, Nata." She made clear, taking calm and slow steps before leaning to the back of the sofa.

Nata gave a light nod in return, while Olivia took some distance as she clearly wasn't comfortable with her yet.

Julia didn't fight against the fact, as Nata was willing to continue the conversation.

"So, you spoke plenty about the other side and now 'death angels'." clearly curious about what was going on, as Julia thought how to best describe it.

"Well, that's pretty complicated and unknown stuff, but to put simply, there is a place where your spirit will go after passing away, that undead and death angels call a will, and there are three fates you can meet. You accept your passing, and are left to wander until your will gets recycled into new life, you don't accept your fate, end up getting caught by death angels that guard the other side, and essentially get your will shredded and destroyed, before put into recycle, or if you escape their fate and find a path to escape the other side, you become spirit in this world. So if your body that at this point is considered an vessel, is badly damaged, you end up as a ghost or such variants, if your vessel rejects your will, but lets you occupy it, you get someone like me, and if you vessel and will get together in harmony, that is where Hiroshi's trick well under."

Julia finished explaining, which left Nata partly confused still, but seemed to grasp the concept at least.

"And important thing about wills and vessels, they are heavily influenced by magical beings. meaning if you ended up going after Hiroshi, it could have caused a lot of trouble. Like I heard rumors that some magical beings are able to absorb weak wills to make them stronger, intentionally or not." Julia noted with a smirk, wanting to slightly scare Nata for entertainment, while explaining why she had to keep her from intervening.

Nata's tail stopped wagging for couple seconds, before returning on it's slow wag, as she took the news calmly, at least getting to know why.

"speaking of. Why were you hiding your ability? Could have saved Hiroshi some trouble." Julia noted teasingly, reminding her about the time she was forced to freeze him.

"I-I didn't have a choice." Nata tried to explain, but Julia gently gripped her ears and massaged them, melting her with the pleasing touch. "You know I meant why you didn't use it against Vaska's puppet." Julia clarified.

"N-nooo..." She pleaded, as Julia kept massaging her ears. "Just answer." she commanded, as Nata kept melting more down.

Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

"I can't control it." Nata admitted, laying defeated on the sofa as Julia let go of her ears.

"Understandable." Julia noted, before relaxing against the sofa's back again, while Olivia was left to just see the aftermath.

"Food's ready!" came a shout from the kitchen, and as the crew came to the kitchen table, they got to see the usual meal ready.

As Olivia and Nata were quick to happily join with Hiroshi, Julia curiously checked the meal.

"Damn, this actually looks impressive." She comments, as Hiroshi just smiles and thanks her for the compliment.

Routine keeps calm, as with good food finished and things returned to relaxing at the living room, Julia was enjoying her time in the place, before realizing something important.

"Ah, sorry to trouble, but I will be going out to get some of my stuff. Could I borrow couple bags?" She asked, and Hiroshi didn't mind.

With couple plastic bags she dug out from the kitchen, and with informing of her momentary departure, she heads out.

After a while, Julia arrived at a rundown apartment complex, and upon seeing her apartment door, police tape all over it.

She sighed with light annoyance, as she tore it off, before opening the door to empty, dark apartment.

There was plenty of mess scattered all across the place, even outside the police and tamer investigation, as she walked past trash piles, dirty clothes and dried up blood splatters, and empty bullet shellings.

Going from the hall to living room, with crusty leather sofa, coffee table topped with cans of different alcoholic drinks, and she could note couple guns she owned were taken out.

Taking note of the surroundings, she found her bedroom with the laptop still open and having tabs in full view on message boards.

Calmly stepping closer, she calmly checked it, and as she remembered, it was her latest messages with couple replies.

[21/4/2017 19:06] Zombrot77: "Anyone know anything bout tamers?"

[21/4/2017 19:34] Sk3llybo1: "Heard they crap. Corrupt scum."

[21/4/2017 20:13] Scholar Pontiff: "Nearly all are, but from what I have read, Finland's one is best, especially since Matthew Hamilton, the one who originated the Tamer program is one leading it."

[22/4/2017 2:39] Ayxxu: "I am from Elmspring, and that's true from what I have seen. But of course there are discriminatory fucks around still, they just aren't public about that stuff."

[22/4/2017 7:43] Zombrot77: "That's expected, but I wonder if it will be worth if I possibly consider registering with them."

  [22/4/2017 18:59] Sk3llybo1: "HELL NAH!!!1!"

[23/4/2017 1:02] Ayxxu: "I am not confident enough. They take track of everything about you."

[23/4/2017 9:23] Scholar Pontiff: "If you feel desperate, sure. You won't be able to back out of it, but who knows. Just make sure they aren't the troublesome sort ;)"

[23/4/2017 9:39] Ayxxu: "Asked a friend about it. They said that while they may be tracked, they felt happier afterwards, so idk."

  [23/4/2017 21:52] Zombrot77: "Thx for the info."

"I hope I didn't make a mistake." she muttered to herself, as she put up a new message up. "Took the step into risking it. Care-taker seems alright so far and will be having plenty of free time. Wish me gl."

As with it, she closed the tabs, including with couple research sites and weapon websites, before packing the laptop up, with some clothes.

Digging around the cabinets and cleaning some of the mess out of the way, she dug out a knife she held close to herself. Taking careful steps to clean the dried up crusty blood of it under the barely functioning faucet, she finished it in short time, before returning it into it's leather sheath and putting it in her pocket for safe keeping.

Making sure to take everything she would need, with personal belongings, clean enough clothes and her cards and cash, she prepared to head back to her new home.

Upon arriving back at Hiroshi's place, she calmly entered, as she spotted the group working out.

Hiroshi was getting his body back into function, taking small steps with Nata assisting him, and Olivia was stretching her wings out, slowly starting to take shape, as it was by now clear to see the white and black dots on it.

"Got everything?" Hiroshi asked, sitting down exhausted after plenty of workout.

"Yeah, I did." She noted, as she put the bags nearby the sofa.

"Just take the stuff to the girls room." He noted, before pointing out the guest room that Nata and Olivia had claimed to be theirs.

She moved her stuff there, taking note of the room, and the single bed in it, making her partly question his ability in fostering.

After setting her stuff aside, things returned to mostly normal.

Night slowly came, washing was done thankfully normally by now since he was able to move his body enough to dismount and mount the wheelchair and move his body, while the girls were free to go by themself, as Julia chose to go separately from Olivia and Nata.

With them clean, and as bed-time was coming, Nata hopped onto Hiroshi's lap.

"If I sleep with you, Julia can sleep with Olivia." She tried to negotiate, but Olivia's stare clearly spoke of clearly not wanting to be left alone with Julia, while Hiroshi calmly and with great effort lifted her off him, "No, I understand why you wanted it when I couldn't move alone, so there is no need. And i'd prefer not to wake up with your hair in my mouth."

Nata gave a light frown at the decline, but accepted it. "Fine, but when you get healthy enough for a walk, I want to go with you around the park again." She said, which Hiroshi nodded in answer to. "Sure, if that eases your mind." as he gave her a pat on the head.

With a happy tail wag, she happily headed to bedroom, which Olivia shortly followed her with.

"Attention seeker, huh?" Julia commented, which Hiroshi gave a sigh. "Yeah, her wild side is troublesome, and I am not sure if I can even fix her issues."

Julia could note the worried look on him, and understanding the unspoken trouble between them, she laid down on the sofa.

"I can see. She has gone through a lot after all. Vaska is known to be abusive to those he cares. No doubts she has deep wounds she is hiding from years being with him."

"I know." He noted, as Julia's words gave him goosebumps. "Anyways, good night." he said before wheeling himself to his bedroom, leaving Julia alone.

As he got to bed, he was left to question himself as her words got stuck in his mind.

'She was abused... no, all of them have been.' he thought to himself, his mind feeling like it was deteriorating with the concept.

'They need me. I can't think of giving up like I did.'

'I can't let it happen again... I promised it to you, Aki.'
