B2 | Intermission 4

  Somewhere Deep in the Abyss

A tense silence fills the water as several Kraken Bloodliners and a few Abyssal Orca Bloodliners slowly make their way deeper down into the Abyss. Bit by ever so dark bit.

And as they get deeper, they repeatedly run into more and more abyssal servants. Each of whom are at a higher level than the last.

The first abyssal servants they started running into were in the thirty thousands range in terms of their level.

  But now?

Now they’re starting to run into abyssal servants who are all the way at the eighty to ninety thousands range.

However, at the end of the day, they are all just abyssal servants.

Creatures without any magic made directly of the mana from the Abyssal Kraken.

Which means they cannot use magic.

So the real threats to the Bloodliners aren’t the abyssal servants just yet. Even if they are still major threats if they’re caught off guard or overwhelmed by too many of them.

Their biggest threats are the massive monsters that are the same level as the abyssal servants. Some of whom are the size of the larger Ancient Monsters despite not being Ancient Monsters themselves.

But no matter how deep the Bloodliners get, they don’t find any traces of their relatives.

  Of the captured Bloodliners.

  So they keep going deeper.

  And deeper.

  And even deeper.

All the way until they reach the point where the abyssal servants and monsters are in the hundred thousands range in level. Where the Bloodliners stop fighting entirely and focus on hiding from the monsters to survive.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

A couple of the Bloodliners even retreat and head back up out of fear and to report everything they’ve seen thus far to the surface.

But just a few days later, the remaining Bloodliners in the water find something extraordinary within the Abyss.

A bright yet deep blue light shining from down below.

  Two of them in fact.

All of the Bloodliners immediately shut their eyes and turn away from the light, but not before seeing an enormous planet illuminated by the light in the distance. One that isn’t anywhere near the source of the light but is close enough for them to see thanks to the light.

And what they find on the planet sends a chill down their spines.

A chill great enough that they all immediately rush back in the direction of the surface.

Because what they find is the sight of an enormous creature bound to the planet by chains of water and tentacles.

  And the creature they see?

It’s a massive dragon made out of bones and emitting a powerful wave of miasma all throughout the water around it. One lying down on top of a planet that is nearly the same size as it that’s covered in its miasma.

But what terrifies the Bloodliners even more is that when the light shining from down there fades and they turn to look back at the planet again, they find two glowing purple eyes staring at them instead from the bound monster.

Eyes belonging to the Revenant Dragon.

The very first Ancient Monster discovered alive since the founding of the Alliance other than the Bloodbone Tree.

And the instant its eyes lock onto them, the Revenant Dragon roars out its anger. Sending floods of miasma all throughout the water along with millions of undead creatures of all walks of life.

  All walks of the dead.

The Bloodliners immediately speed up while trying to cloak themselves. Swimming as quickly as they can away.

But all they manage to do is keep pace with the undead chasing them.

All the way until they discover another planet covered in chains days later while swimming with the undead still behind them.

Except that this planet covered in chains has an enormous draconic creature with thousands of heads. Each of which is bound by chains of water and tentacles.

With the tentacles reaching from down deep in the Abyss.

Just like the last Ancient Monster.

  The Hydra.

And when the Hydra notices them, lava begins to boil up all around the hydra before spewing out and evaporating the water and turning other bits of water into obsidian.

Attracting the attention of the undead despite the lava failing to do anything thanks to the Abyss’ water around them.

Thereby giving the Bloodliners a chance to escape the flood of undead behind them as the undead begin to attack the Hydra.

And without any further hesitation, the Bloodliners immediately begin to rush back in the direction of the surface no matter how long it takes to leave the Abyss.

Because fear has now been drilled into them as deeply as it can be thanks to the Ancient Monsters down in the Abyss.
