County Town Chapter 67 The Transmitter of Scriptures
Yi Tianxing listened more and more, his brow furrowed in thought. This old monk's words seemed to be lacking something. He opened his mouth lightly: "What does this have to do with anything? My parents died early, I naturally don't know where I came from. If you say this is evidence, then shouldn't all of you big monks be searching for the so-called 'transmitters' in every orphanage? And another thing, Zhu Que - who's protecting whom? It's me protecting him." His voice became more and more casual: "Even if this little red bird was sent by heaven to watch over me, how could Zhu Que, a Daoist sacred object, have any relation to you big monks? Are you saying that tomorrow, two old Daoists with cow noses will come to Wudang Mountain, and I'll have to enter the Daoist sect as an apprentice?"
He snorted with laughter, his lips curling up slightly in mockery.
"Great Master, I'll be frank with you, it seems like you're not very familiar with this sutra either." He said slowly, looking at Bhikkhu's calm and serene eyes.
Bin Ku Da Shi smiled slightly, looking a bit embarrassed, and replied: "The layman is indeed clever... This transmission of the scriptures has not occurred since the Song and Yuan dynasties, so within Buddhism, there are only these sayings. The specific reasons behind it are not something that we later generations can understand. But doesn't the layman feel that his own life and the predecessors who transmitted the scriptures in Buddhism have a lot in common?"
Yi Tianxing curiously said: "There are many orphans in the world without parents, what do I have in common with these high-ranking monks?" He suddenly thought of something and sneered: "Great monk, don't try to deceive me. Take that Kumarajiva from Kucha for example, he had a father and mother, his father fled from Tianzhu to Kucha and married the princess of Kucha, giving birth to Kumarajiva, how could he be without parents?"
Bin Ku smiled slightly and replied: "Believe or not believe, it's all up to you, sir."
"Alright, since you believe me, what kind of transmitter am I? What's the point? Am I supposed to become a Buddhist monk, shave my head and wear robes, and become a little novice?" Yi Tianxing asked, scratching the back of his head.
Bin Ku Master somewhat angrily said: "Be more respectful. This is only what the Supreme Buddha Dharma has shown, as for what happens later, it's not something that a worldly monk like me can determine."
"Isn't that equivalent to us two talking a lot of nonsense?"
"Yi Jushi, I'd like to ask you to stay in the temple from now on. On one hand, you can cultivate Buddhist teachings; on the other hand, let's see what arrangements Heaven has for you next. Besides, since you've had conflicts with the Tianmen of Auspiciousness, if you leave the Temple of Return to the Origin, I'm afraid there will be all sorts of inconveniences."
Yi Tianxing quietly looked into Benkuo Shang's eyes, but couldn't see any threatening intent, still with a dignified and respectable appearance, and couldn't help but sneer coldly in his heart.
"How long do I have to stay in the Temple of Return?" He sat with his knees crossed, his fingers unconsciously tapping lightly on his knee. Although he didn't understand what a transmitter was or why Master Bin was so certain that he was the transmitter, he felt that this matter seemed not as simple as it appeared, and there was some hidden danger.
Jixiang Tian is afraid that he will not let this matter go, wait for me to invite a few masters from the Northern Chan Temple to reason with them, and it's no problem if Yiju Shi comes out of the temple again.
Yi Tianxing asked again: "Can this title of 'transmitting scriptures' be said by you that I am, and I am?"
"It's not natural." Master Bin sighed with a smile: "Master Sanzang has been traveling west for over ten years, and has gone through countless tribulations. If you were someone who was destined to spread the Buddhist scriptures in my Buddha's door, then naturally there would be a mysterious Buddha's will guiding your cultivation."
"What do I need to do?" Yi Tianxing disliked this bewildering feeling, and after realizing that the other party was also half-bewildered, he became even more perplexed.
The Venerable Master joined his palms together and, with a gentle wave of his hand that shone with the light of Buddha, said: "Householder, you should be the Vajra that subdues demons, protect the Dharma, and assist the Buddha in spreading the great virtue of our sect throughout the world."
Yi Tian Xing heard these words, and his eyes gradually narrowed, a faint glint of cold light flashing in the depths of his pupils. In his heart, he thought: So... it turns out that the so-called transmission of scriptures is just a fight.
"Old Master, you're not doing things in a righteous way." Yi Tianxing stretched out his index finger and gently shook it in front of Bin Ku's eyes. "I used to think that you were a kind-hearted and virtuous monk, but looking at your face today, I feel like your mouth is getting sharper and your eyes are getting narrower, revealing a hint of cunning."
Yi Tianxing was not willing to put on the hat of a scripture transmitter, he was not a fool, and naturally knew that the struggle between religions was more terrifying than any conflict of interest in the world. Although he didn't quite understand how Zen Buddhism, which had always emphasized clarity and non-action, incorporating the teachings of Laozi and Zhuangzi, could also harbor delusions of strife, but thinking about the gradual decline of Buddhism in today's world, he knew that if he became a hitman for Zen Buddhism, his future days wouldn't be easy either. If it were in China, it would still be okay to say, but what if one day he was sent to Rome, that small country, to do some shady things, and he might not even have the chance to come back alive.
He didn't believe in gods or Buddhas originally, so naturally he wouldn't think that the religions of this world have any mysterious powers to speak of.
But now that several months have passed, I really know that there are indeed supernatural beings in the world that exceed human power, and I have a subtle fear of these religions.
Bin Ku Da Shi looked at his face and sighed, saying: "The donor should consider it himself." For some reason, he changed the title of Yi Tian Xing from Ju Shi to Shi Zhu again. He paused for a moment, then continued: "You killed Zong Si of Jixiang Tianmen..."
Yi Tianchen suddenly interjected: "I didn't kill him, don't wrong me."
