Synexus could only stare at the message in disbelief. What was happening? What were these words? What is the System and what was a class? As if his thoughts were being read, another message appeared before him.
Your class will be your way forward. It will be the way you live your life. Your class determines how you level up. The System has evaluated your first twenty years to present the choices that are most optimal.
This aligned with what Syling and the Elder had told Synexus about this day and his life going forward. They told him he would have to make an important decision, and that the decision was his to make. No one should make it for him.
He sat up and rubbed his eyes. There was a little sunlight starting to come through his window. It was the start of a new day, and now it was a start to the rest of his life. It was time, so without any more hesitation he turned his attention back to the System and its class choices.
Class: Druid
Common
Due to your exposure to nature, your understanding of natural systems, and your knowledge of the language of nature, this class is being presented. Connect with nature further and harness the power that comes with it. Gain a deeper understanding of plants and their processes to cultivate, converse, and even control them. Your connection to animals is also heightened and they will inherently trust you. Form a deeper connection to an animal to understand it. Be one with nature and it will be one with you.
Synexus thought over this for a moment. When he was little, he wanted nothing but to be like the Branch. This was as close as he would get, but it didn’t feel quite right. He also wanted to know why it was common. Did that mean it was a bad class? He would ask the Elder once he looked through the rest of the choices. Onto the next option.
Class: Technomancer
Common
Your race is inherently connected to technology and the complex working of machines. This class will allow you to take that connection further. Understand technical and mechanical processes simply by interacting with any machine. Gain knowledge of metals and their different attributes. Control and shape those metals to replicate machines. Technology is a necessity for the advancement of civilization; with this path you’ll be that necessity.
This one took Synexus a second to understand. It spoke of his race, and he wasn’t even sure what that was. The Branch had theories due to some of his unique features, but they never could get enough information to confirm. They told him he was always too intelligent for his age, and that most flesh beings needed to consume food instead of just sunlight. His original language was foreign to them, and they told him it was unusual that he had memories from when he was only a baby. There was also his ability to touch things to gain information about them. They never could explain to him how that worked, he just knew that he could sense things about objects or people he touched. The one thing that confused the Branch the most though was the fact his blood was silver. Apparently, it was normally red. Could the System grant him information about his past?

Class: Legacy
Rare
You lack the memories, history, and culture of your people. This class is a search for your past. Uncover the mysteries of your origins by pursuing knowledge surrounding your home. Unlock an ancestral understanding of your civilization. Continue deeper on this path to discover more. Grants the ability to understand the history of any object by touching it. See the memories of others with their consent. Carry on the legacy of your people by learning their history.
He stared in disbelief. This could give him all the answers that he’s been wanting his entire life. He would basically be a historian for his entire life, but that was a small price to pay to get his answers. To find his mother. Still this option didn’t feel quite right. It focused too much on his prior life. He didn’t want his time with the Branch to be for nothing. There was also the fact that he could still seek out information about his race. It just might be harder without the class assisting him. So, he looked at the next option.
Class: Progress Druid
Rare
This class requires unique circumstances. A druid bathed in nature but birthed in technology. Balance nature and technology inside yourself to become progress. Blend the natural systems of life with the artificial systems of technology to create new systems all together. Using your understanding of nature and your inherent knowledge of technology, create biotechnology. Gain a deeper insight into the relationship between nature and technology. Enhance plants and simple organisms through your touch. Use your past to be progress for the future.
Now this class sounded like it incorporated who he was more than anything. He had always been good at understanding information. He hadn’t had a lot of experience with technology living with the Branch, but there had been some human merchants a few times over the years that showed off their different contraptions. It always intrigued him, why he felt connected to such things. This felt like it spoke to his soul in a way the others hadn’t. It combined the things he liked about the druid class and the technomancer class without sacrificing the other. He did not specialize in one thing, but that was okay. It sounded more like a challenge. There was one choice left, and he wanted to ask the Elder before he decided anyways.
Class: Lone Healer
Uncommon
You have experienced true loneliness in your life. Being different than everyone around you has left you alienated at times, but you made it through. Help people facing that same alienation. Heal others you come across with both physical and mental ailments. Gain the ability to sense those that need help. Be a beacon of hope for people in their darkest times.
This did tug at Synexus’ feelings a bit because there were many times growing up with the Branch that he wished someone would come to help him. Someone who was like him. The Branch had treated him well for the most part and he did form bonds, but there was always that unspoken fact that he was flesh and they weren’t. That loneliness had haunted him for years and he would like to help others, but he didn’t feel like this was his calling. He was sure that he had the right choice, but first he wanted to see the Elder. He had questions.
***
The Branch Elder heard Synexus out as he went over all the classes and his questions. They took a second to gather their thoughts before speaking, “I told you once that this had to be your choice. No one could choose for you, but asking for advice is wise. You were offered unique choices, and I must admit that they are different from what the Branch get presented. You asked about the rarity, but I ask you not to think of any of them as better or worse than others. The rarity simply refers to how common in the world they are. The rarer they are, the less assistance you’ll find on their progression. I do think you’d succeed in any of these classes, but you said only one felt right to you. You already have your answer then. Welcome to the start of your new life, Progress Druid.”
