Chapter 7: A better tomorrow

At the northern border of the tyrant domain, women and children rushed through border poring into other territories as some climbing over the fance.

The gate at the border was flooded and the knights that were at the border were from the Lionheart dukedom.

One of the knights in silver armour with a crest of a lion across his chest plate sighed as he looked at the unhinged gate being trampled on.

They rushed past the knights, no one dared to look back this was the only opportunity they had to leave this territory.

The border had always been guarded by the duke Ramsey knights and they would often kill any commoner that tried to leave the territory without a hint of remorse as the Lionheart knights watched from the other side of the fance with heavy hearts.

Now every knight at the border stood and watched as women and children poured into the Lionheart dukedom.

"Sir shouldn't we stop them?" a boy in his early twenties spoke looking outside the window of the commenders office.

A man with a scruffy beard sighed as he looked up at the mountain of papers on the table.

"Newbie, what are your superiors outside doing?" The man didn't bother to look at the newbie as another paper vanished beneath his pen, another moved from the stack of paper into his hand.

The newbie gaze turned to the armoured figures outside that stood doing nothing while others help anyone that fell into the swarm.

"They doing nothing while others are helping undocumented people cross into the territory" the newbie spoke.

"All those people are citizens of the Everton kingdom as such they are free to enter the territory as they wish" he kept on scribblings as he spoke.

"Im sorry sir but our job is to guard the border for anyone that come from the Tyrants domain" the newbie spoke

"No" his voice deepened "although your new here, I can pardon your questions as simply being ignorant but don't let your ignorance bred stupidity"

The newbie simply stared outside the window not daring to speak as the sound of a pen moving across paper whispered in the air.

To those who know nothing about how duke Ramsey rules his territory, the women and children were fleeing from the demons but the knights of the Lionheart kingdom had seen the dukes tyranny and understood they were fleeing the duke himself.

The common folk of the kingdom only knew the watered down rumours of duke Ramsey but the nobles were fully aware of dukes actions and nobles beneath him.

The women and children who were fleeing were not simply running from the duke but also the nobles beneath him, and the demons that were despised by every race had brought them salvation.

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

Although rebellion wasn't a choice for the people in duke Ramsey territory, the hope of a better tomorrow had never died in most people's heart's as such if they couldn't find it through rebellion then escape was their only choice.

But the duke was always a step ahead, while most dukes in Everton kingdom could only see their borders on maps, the duke built a fance that represented his border before a single soul could ever step outside.

And with the border built the dream for escape died before it ever began, but for the nobles in his territory the border represented protection from the kingdoms gaze.

Believing no one could see them, the nobles under duke Ramsey indulged in their vices, some raped man or women the gender seemed trivial while other hunted down commoners for sport and a rare few indulged in cannibalism.

These vices thrived under the dukes rule and all in exchange for loyalty as such no one dared to question the duke, but after a couple years the kingdom found out.

The stories had spread among nobles even nobles that had no moral compass felt a sense of disgust hearing what was unfolding in the Tyrants domain.

But the sword saint stood different from the other nobles of the kingdom who simply felt disgust yet did nothing.

He ordered his knights to build bases around the border fance that duke Ramsey had build, and once done they were given a single order "Kill all nobles that step out of that territory"

Although he couldn't wage war against duke Ramsey, his actions scared all the nobles in duke Ramsey territory to the point it seemed they had stopped indulging in their vices.

But even with that the sword saints order still stood and until this day no noble from the tyrant domain has ever left the territory except the duke himself.

Even now as people flooded through the gates several eight star knights under blazing heat decapitated the nobles that hid among the commoners and their bodies would vanish before ever touching the ground.

As women and children rushed through the gate a voice came from the Lionheart territory "MOVE!!!''

"MOVE!!...NOW!!.." one of the three figures horse back shouted as they rode to the gate.

Two of the figures had white armour that had golden trims while one wore white robes as they all rode on armoured horses.

"Tch" the one in robes raised his right hand and a golden light rushed to the gate "we don't have time for this"

The light flooded through women and children, their eyes widened yet they felt no fear, their nerves calmed and some yarned as their eyes shut.

Some knights grabbed the hilt of their swords turning to the rushing dust cloud then.

"Don't unsheath your swords!" A voice echoed from the commanders office with the newbie still standing at the window.

The knight removed their hands from their swords as the women and children rose off the ground.

The robed figure pulled his hand back and in that moment people close to a million that stood on the other side of the border flew into the Lionheart dukedom.

The wooden houses that had long vanished appeared again as the three figures rode past the gate while people flew over their head in a stream of a golden hue.

"We can't waste any more time" one of the armour figures spoke as the fance slowly vanished behind them.

The other two nodded and in that moment a golden hue covered the horses, their figures blurred as the parted with the dust cloud.

They rode past the wooden house's with gaze glued to the direction of the capital then.

The armoured knight at front raised his hand signalling them to stop.

The golden hue that covered the horses vanished and their blurry figures appeared.

"Why are you telling us to stop?" The robed figure spoke in a sharp tone yet armoured figure said nothing simply looking up.

He turned to the other armoured figures and his gaze had turned to the sky, the sun had passed it's peak preparing to set.

The robed figure looked up but nothing was there then.

The two man unsheathed their sword as one spoke "priest prepared yourself"

"Wha.." before the priest could finish the other paladin spoke "unveil yourself beast"

"Grrrrrrrrrr!!" The priest eyes widened as the air was filled the beast breath that was akin to rotten corpses.
