Chapter 1: Into the light

  New dungeon detected

  Searching for sufficient core

Error planetary system degeneration detected insufficient core available

  Searching

In the darkness a glow could be seen surrounded by darkness, a consciousness barely sentient from the years of isolation without stimulation but held on by pure chance.

The darkness has surrounded me for what seems like an eternity I know I was once someone but who I do not know was I dead or was I ever alive.

  Damaged soul detected

“A voice or is that my imagination again” I said aloud not caring if someone could hear me, I stopped caring a long time ago.

Damaged soul meets requirements transfer imminent to dungeon core imminent please stand by.

“Well, if this gets me out of this nothingness I’ll take it.” Closing my eyes and waiting for the first time I can remember I can see again and what I saw was a dim dark and dry cave.

“Ooh I can see again.” I said excitedly as I looked at my surroundings.

“Cave wall cave wall cave wall sand and ooh a small opening.” I was so excited I looked at the cave wall for what felt like days.

After I got my fill of sightseeing, I noticed a blinking dot at the corner of my vision. Opening it I was welcomed to a greeting screen.

Welcome to the system dungeon core name unknown.

“Seems like I’m a dungeon core now cool and it looks like I don’t have a name I’ll have to think of one latter.” Looking at my notifications I noticed I could scroll down and read more information about my dungeon and core.

  Dungeon level 1

  S.P. system point 10/10

  Floors 1

  Domain level 1

  System store

“A store! And I have points maybe I can buy something.” Opening the system store I was greeted with a new menu and options with their prices.

  Dungeon level upgrade 50 S.P.

  Traps 2 S.P.

  Domain expansion 10 S.P.

  Room expansion 10 S.P.

  Additional floor 20 S.P.

  Dungeon floor features 5 S.P.

  Dungeon exterior features 5 S.P.

  Mucilaginous 5 S.P.

  Increase max S.P. 10 S.P.

“So cool. But how do I get more S.P.?”

System Points can be gained by absorbing defeated invaders to their Dungeon. Warning if your core is destroyed your dungeon and you will be destroyed forever.

A notification appeared in my vision answering my question and even gave me a warning if I messed up.

  “How nice thank you system.”

Looking back at myself, a new view of my surroundings appeared a top-down view could be seen. I could tilt and rotate my view and face in and out of the walls around me and even a side view with my floor.

“This is some much fun. So much better than the blank nothingness of my previous existence.”

The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

I spent more time looking at my surroundings I was surrounded by sand and more sand, nothing but sand. Getting a little board of the sand I decided to do some shopping.

Looking at the store I decided to make some purchases.

“I’ll take a trap and a few features.”

I purchased a simple pit trap with spikes at the bottom and a hatch to cover it I could even make it active or inactive. Outside the dungeon I added some trees and I got a batch of 5 trees for one purchase.

This left me with 3 S.P. left so I saved them for latter. With that I waited and waited.

A few days passed as I watched my surroundings, but nothing happened. This quickly boarded me but while the ground around me changed very little the stares at night were a different story. Stars millions of them and so many colors I forgot even existed greeted me every night and the phases of the two moons were so pretty. I kept this routine until a new notification appeared in my vision one delightful night.

  Warning intruder detected

  Sun Scorpion level 1

  Attribute light

A scorpion the size of a small house cat wiggled its way through my small entrance it had a strange glow to it but before I could observe it further it moved directly over my pit trap and before it could get any further into my only floor the trap door opened and the scorpion plummeted to its death.

  Intruders eliminated 5 S.P. earned.

“Cool.” I said to myself as I watched the impaled scorpion slowly dissolve into small partials that were quickly absorbed into my core.

“Time for more shopping.” This time I purchased some interior features now that I know that scorpions can count towards S.P. I placed a small bowl of fruit close to my core’s pedicel in hopes of drawing more in to farm S.P. and I waited.

Amazingly the description states bowl of fruit won’t rote and would be replaced in consumed this made things even easier as I watch another scorpion plummeted to its death giving me additional 5 S.P. This time I purchased a small spring just big enough for someone to have a drink out of for 5 S.P. in hopes of drawing larger animals to my dungeon. I added an additional trap above the same pit trap in case something could survive the fall a bolder shaped to fit I to the pit to squish anything inside 1 S.P. left. When placing the spring I noticed a small gem in the water that seemed to produce the water.

  Intruder detected

  Sun Spider level 1

  Attributes earth

“A sun spider ooh.” I said as I looked at the spider with excitement then a shiver crept up my nonexistent spine.

“Ooh I don’t like that. It’s all creepy and has so many eyes and legs squish it.” And so, I did without even opening the pit trap in dropping the boulder and it went squish.

  Intruder eliminated 5 S.P. earned.

I proceeded to spend my point on a small berry bush that I placed just outside my cave entrance. Days passed and larger animals, an owl even made a home in one of my trees, but no larger animals seemed interested in my cave.

Time passed as I entertained myself by watching the owl make a home in my tree and other small animals like a horned lizard which was quickly snatched by the owl.

“Hay leave some of those for me I told the owl.” It just continued to enjoy its meal in its home. “Well, it’s not like you could even understand me if you could hear me.” I continued to watch my surroundings and browsing my system store page.

“Oh, telekinesis this could be useful.”

  Telekinesis level 1

  Cost 5 S.P.

“I know what my next purchase will be.” I sang a small tune to myself with joy.

The next week passed quickly, and I purchased my new skill.

“This is so much fun.” I said as a watched a small pebble move across the sand in my cave. I stacked pebbles and drew shapes in the sand that entertained me for hours.

More time passed and more intruders were defeated with my trap combination. I continued to grow I purchased the upgrade to my max S.P.

  Max S.P. increased from 10 to 20

  Intruder detected

“Yay more S.P.” looking to my entrance I saw something new.

  Slime Level 1

  Affinity water

“A slime that’s so cool.” I watched the slime crawl across the sand into my cave soon the slime fell into the pit trap but surprisingly I didn’t see an elimination notification.

“Oh no that can’t be good.” As I said that I looked down into the pit and saw the slime crawl through the spike and started its way up the wall.

“Nope.” I set off the boulder and again no kill notification. It began to ooze its way through the small gap between the wall and boulder.

“Oh, come on.” I quickly picked up pebbles and started to chuck them at the slime.

“Die die die die.” I screamed then I heard something like two rocks smacking. I looked closely at the slime and saw a small ball the size of a quarter was inside of the slime cracked and it began to wobble.

“what’s this?” I reached out with my telekinesis and grabbed its core and squeezed. It wobbled in protest and then went still when I felt its core shatter.

  Intruder eliminated 10 S.P. earned

“10 S.P. that’s double than the usual intruder I’ve hat at their level. Is it because of how much bigger it was or because it was harder to kill?” I waited for an answer from the system, but nothing popped up so I guess both my ideas were correct.

I added a fire feature to my pit trap that would cover the bottom of the pit with flammable liquid that would light when something dropped into it. Hopefully kill slime in the future. And so, I spent the rest of my day restacking my pebbles.

The cave seemed to be a little bland so with my abundant free time I tried my hand at cave art. I started painting my view of the outside world, the cave trees, spring and berry bushes.

I would not call it good, but I was proud of my attempt at painting hooty the owl that had made its home in one of my tallest trees with its mate. It looked funny and the eyes were to large but I though it looked like him or her, I never checked the gender of the owl. During this I confirmed that the fire trap added to the pit trap works against slime as one crawled in while I was busy painting.

“Good, now I don’t have to panic about that anymore.” I confirmed with myself and went back to painting.
