The Resonant was my first attempt to write a novel with the help of an AI. It all began with the na?ve idea, “Here’s the setting—tell me a story,” and I quickly learned how sobering that approach is. Even with AI, writing a book is real work.
But every time, I got better. My other two books went noticeably more smoothly—not least because I invested more upfront. For Centerline, I locked down the story first; for Until the End, I also defined the tone each book should have and how the characters voices should sound, before even the first chapter was drafted.
Stolen story; please report.
In this manuscript, you can still clearly see my struggle with the AI and its free voice—a struggle I sometimes won and sometimes lost, which I only figured out during re-read. And you probably can’t imagine how much effort it takes to bring raw AI chapters back on course. And still ....
But that’s what happens when you give the AI free reign.
What I’m saying is this: you can tell that the AI and I weren’t aligned on where the book should go or how it should sound. Maybe I'll come back to it and improve it a little. Especially the first chapters, which were overwhelmingly good, compared to the second version, but in hindsight, after and during - it is clear, that I still had a lot to learn.
