Chapter XV: Distraction

After the group had established their plan; Wallace, Barb, Sun Walker, Candi, Wilhelm, and Stevie all made their way towards the town square. Shops lined the streets, guards patrolled, vendors wandered searching for customers, and people consumed as many goods as they could.

“WOW!” Barb gleamed, “What is this place? I’ve never seen anything like it!”

“Me neither!” Sun Walker chimed in.

Wilhelm explained to the rest of the group, “One’s a mountain barbarian and the other is from some secret village.”

  Wallace chuckled, “that makes sense.”

The two barbarians quickly ran up to the best smelling booth, a sausage and cheese vendor.

“How much?” Barb asked, like a child asking their parent.

The vendor, a short and stout man with a curled mustache looked at her curiously. “Uh, one bronze piece m’lady.”

“Talon!” She called out before quickly realizing he wasn’t there to pay for her this time. “Can I get it for free? Because I’m…beautiful?” She asked while striking a pose.

“No. Everyone pays full price.” The man sternly replied.

Sun Walker in turn struck the same pose, “What about me?”

You might be reading a stolen copy. Visit Royal Road for the authentic version.

The man made a disgusted face and continued onto the next customer, leaving the two without anything. In the meantime, Wilhelm approached Wallace.

“So what’s the plan here?” He asked the whaleman.

“A distraction. You and the other two spellcasters are going to provide cover fire to those two buffoons and myself.” He explained, motioning to Sun Walker and Barb. “Take the kids and find a good vantage point. You know what to do once the fighting starts.”

“Yes, sir.” Wilhelm walked off. Within a few minutes the three spell casters found themselves atop a nearby building, ready for anything.

A couple patrolling guards walked by soon thereafter. Wallace looked to Sun Walker and Barb who found themselves at yet another vendor, searching for a free meal.

“Amateurs.” He muttered, approaching the guards.

“What do ya want?” One questioned, attitude overflowing in his words.

Wallace sighed in return, “Nothing personal lads.” He instantly smashed their heads together, knocking them out cold.

Another guard charged towards Wallace, but was stopped cold in their tracks by Barb. She reached into one of their pockets and found a gold coin.

“How about now, sausage man!?” She screamed, chasing after the vendor from before.

“Make it two!” Sun Walker followed, punching another two guards on his way.

Nearby civilians screamed and began evacuating the area. Quickly, an envoy of guards started to circle Wallace. A blue beam of magical energy took one out while a pink gum bubble engulfed two. Stevie frantically flipped through his magic book.

Wilhelm quickly stopped him by pointing onto a page, “How about this one? I learned it pretty quickly when I was about your age.”

Stevie smirked seeing the page. It read “Arcane Blast: A bolt of magical energy will shoot from the caster’s hand, inflicting damage into any creature or object on the other end.”

“Eat Arcane Blast!” He shouted, aiming his hand towards a guard. A beam of green light shot from his palm right into the guard’s back, knocking him down.

“I did it!” He looked to Wilhelm.

Wilhelm returned with a smile, “Let’s have some fun then, buddy!”
