Field Trip – Chapter 1 – The Usual Trouble

November 1993“Man! Why did we get different lunches again?” Jerry huffs as he sits down at the lunch table.Chris has to ugh, he bitched all st year too. His girlfriend, Celeste, has first lunch this year too. While they’re all on second lunch. Just like st year.“Aww. Poor, Jer. Stuck having lunch with his friends.” Ivy mocks. “Poor baby.” She sticks out her bottom lip and pouts.“Not like those two don’t spend enough time outside of school, anyway.” Jackson tells her.Elle trots up to the table and says hello to everyone and sits down next to Chris. He scoots next to her, and she slides in next to him. She was wearing her cheerleader outfit, which drives him nuts.“Speaking of spending time together.” Paul says, sitting next to Faith. His girlfriend now. They made it official at the end of summer break st year. Chris never thought he would go for the new age hippy chick, but she was actually quite cool. And a sweetheart.“That’s right.” Elle says then gives Chris a hug and a lengthy, kiss. Chris forgetting about having lunch. He wanted her.“Well, guess they’re busy having lunch. We might as well, too.” Jerry says as he opens his lunch bag.Elle separates. “That was just an appetizer.”“Don’t they usually call that forepy?” Ivy says, then yelps as Jackson gives her a poke in the side. She smacks him on the arm, then pokes him back, giggling.Things were so good now. And back to normal. No word from those idiots from st year. The press finally died down after nearly six months of questions and interviews about the incident in Portnd. Larry and Simon tried everything they could not to bring attention to their powers, which would be bad. Especially after some rumors starting coming out about other people from around the world faking videos and the like. Some looked good, but luckily there was always some specialist there to prove that they were bogus. Thank you, Mr. Professional Skeptic.Besides that, TalCorp quickly jumped to the head of the Fortune five hundred. Not only with cybernetics, but with the introduction of a brand new invention. Actually, a renovation of an existing technology, the cell phone. His dad’s was smaller, sleeker, and flipped open and shut. Plus, it didn’t use radio waves. He called it, Hyper-band. Simir, he said, to Star Trek’s sub-space. It didn’t use satellites, which is a huge financial help. TalCorp was even building a facility to mass produce them as well as the technology behind it. Which would mean that everything that relies on radio waves is soon to become obsolete. Thank you, Director and Axus.Aside from now being multi-billionaire families, Chris and Elle have become closer than ever. Having consummated their retionship after her birthday party this past June. And since then, their spark has…evolved. They don’t even need to touch for it to work anymore. He can feel her for miles, literally. They tested it out. He could sense her and feel her mood all the way across the city. The night itself was just as he promised her. After a nice dinner that his mother prepared. Chris had his room set up with candles, flowers, incense, soft music, thanks to Faith on some of that. They even slow danced. What made it special too was the fact that they spent the night at his house, and they had it all to themselves. His parents spent the night at the Prowman’s. It was like a mini honeymoon. Their parents said they didn’t even have that romantic of a first time. They were so jealous. But they made up for it. Having taken some personal time for themselves.“Hey. Is that who I think it is?” Paul says, looking over the crowd.Chris looks over and his eyes go wide, as does his grin. Coming out of the lunch line with a tray was Rex. He was skinnier than before, a lot skinnier. He had to have lost fifty pounds.“Wow, they let him out of the loony-bin I see.” Jackson says.“Maybe he could sit with us?” Ivy says, trying to hold back her ughter and failing.“Yeah, and send him right back to the bin.” Jerry ughs.Chris just shakes his head. Two years in the bin. He didn’t even think they made asylums for kids. He keeps watching him as a couple of seniors walk by him and give him a push. Rex nearly drops his tray.“All right. That was not cool. Even if it is Rex.” Chris stands up.“Chris?” Elle says, her mood, concerned and cautious.“I know.” He says and walks over.He blocks the seniors path. “Come on guys give him a break. That was totally uncalled for.”The seniors, the head one so to speak, he knew as the schools star quarterback, Jason Havers. How Jerry put up with him on the team, was beyond him.“Why? He’s just a stupid freshman.”That’s another thing. Being in the bin kept Rex out of school. He was only able to catch up just recently, he heard. Which meant being, essentially, held back a year.He wanted to reply that they ‘were just stupid seniors’, but he held his tongue. “He’s been through enough all right.” Rex shivers with the onset of fright watching Chris. And the lunch room begins to slowly quiet down to a low murmur.“Dude come on, leave him alone.” One of his buddies tells him. “You know who he is?”“Yeah, I know who he is. Pampered little rich kid. Thinks he owns all of us cause his dad owns TalCorp.”Chris scoffs. “Yes, I live well enough. But it’s not who I am.”Jason moves up and looms over him, the cafeteria now quieting to a hush. Expecting a fight. “Yeah, then who are you then.”He was so tempted to say, ‘your worst nightmare’. “Someone who thinks you had better just back off and be cool.” Chris puts his hands up.Jason ughs. Then does something he shouldn’t have, he shoves him. Chris stumbles back. “Come on man. Don’t.” Putting emphasis on the ‘don’t’.“Don’t do it, Chris.” Elle air speaks to him.“Come on, Talvert! Show me what you got!” Jason raises his voice, shoving Chris again.Chris just smiles. “Elle? Could you make him piss his pants when I say go?”“You are so bad.” She snickers.“Ever hear of the Dim Mak, Jason?” Not that Chris knew any, he only heard Seth talking about them a while back when he was helping them out with a few self defense moves. But Jason didn’t need to know that.“The what?!” Jason ughs and looks back at his friends.“Pressure points on the human body. Some can make you loose feeling in limbs, make you go blind, some can even cripple.”“So?”“I like this one myself.” Chris pokes Jason in the stomach the left of wear his belly button would be. “Elle, go.” He tells hear through the air.Jason looks down and scoffs, then his face changes as his pants begin to turn color. Soon his crotch and the inside of his pants are soaked. He looks back up at Chris in horror.“Sorry.” Chris puts his hands out in apology. The lunchroom erupts in ughter. Jason grabs his crotch, gives the crowd a horrific look then runs off crying. His friends following.“Guess when you gotta go, you gotta go!” Chris announces to the cafeteria crowd.Chris nods to Rex, who is frozen in pce. Then leaves to return to the table.“Dude, that was awesome.” Paul says.“What? I didn’t do anything.” He looks to Elle. She just shrugs and takes a bite of her celery.“Awesome…and evil.” Jerry says.Chris smiles too as he digs into his lunch. What can he say, they work good together.
