Field Trip – Chapter 4 – Game On

At least it was a home game. Away games were always a pain. Or an inconvenience, depending on how you look at it. But as long as Elle was there in her red and blue cheerleader outfit, Chris didn’t care. And she was looking as beautiful as ever. Chris always made it a point to arrive early so they could sit in the front row overlooking the cheerleader bench.

“Hey, hot stuff.” She air speaks to him.

  “What’s up, sexy?”

“Maybe I should be asking ‘what’s up’? Hmm? Enjoying the show?”

  “Always.”

“You guys and your air talking thing.” Jackson says. “You have to teach me and Jer.”

“That could be dangerous.” Ivy says.

“Yeah, imagine the plots you two could come up with.” Chris agrees with Ivy.

“And you two aren’t evil?” Jackson asks.

  Chris just smiles. “Ah. Jealousy.”

“Hey, has anyone seen Havers?” Paul asks.

Oh, no. He forgot. Chris looks around. Then asks Elle.

“Yeah, he’s been on the bench. At the end. Said he’s too sick or something to py.” Elle says snickering.

He looks down and sees the hunched figure of Jason Havers sitting on the end of the bench. Poor guy, guess he shouldn’t have been a complete jerk, Chris did warn him.

“The coach said he’ll be put in if we’re losing. It gives our other quarterback a chance to py.” Elle says. “I’ll tell you ter what his girlfriend did and said when she found out he pissed himself.”

“Oh, that’ll be good.” Chris ughs.

The game goes on and Havers is put in, in the forth quarter. The team is down by five points and they need a touchdown. Some of the crowd ugh at him, but he hears the coach tell him to suck it up and get them a touchdown. He does and starts the py. The ball is snapped but Havers freezes. Several of the other pyers converge on him. But Jerry quickly back tracks and snags the ball from him. The two opposing pyers are leveled as Jerry bulls them over and breaks for the end zone.

  Chris’ elemental sense goes off.

“Uh, Chris? Did Jerry just…” His dad asks.

  “Yeah. He did.”

I’m not cheating, honest. Jerry keeps saying. Yeah, right. Of course he can bme Jackson for starting it. Using his fire powers to fuel his fastball during baseball season st year. Not to mention, having Jerry as his catcher. They are such cheats.

Jerry never loses a step as he plows through three more pyers as he crosses into the end zone for the touchdown. If Chris can remember, his first. The hometown crowd goes nuts.

“He is going to get it when we get home.” Elle tells Chris as she jumps and does her bouncy cheerleader thing.

“I know. But we won.” He looks at Havers still stunned. The rest of the team now gathering around Jerry in the celebration.

The game ends and Jerry is carried off the field. Leaving poor Havers to walk off the field, defeated. Chris felt a little sorry for the guy, but only a little. Jerry is put back on his feet and is met by the others. Some of them with discerning looks.

Jerry stops and puts his arms out. “What? I didn’t cheat.” He says.

“Whatever.” Chris says rolling his eyes.

They pat him on the back and high five him regardless.

Jerry is met by Celeste with a big hug and kiss. Yup they were making out ter, big time. Him and Elle had pns of their own as well. But until then they’ll have to settle for some of their parents after game food. Which usually meant either pizza or KFC.

Elle comes up after everyone starts to break up to go home and jumps into his arms. Her lips lock on his, enthusiastically.

“Wow. Maybe I should try out for the team.”

Elle smiles. “You don’t need to be.” She kisses him again.

“Looks like one game ends, and another is about to start.” Paul says. “Save it for ter you two.”

Chris and Elle just smile. It was going to be hard to save it, but they’d manage.
