There was utter dysfunctional chaos in the narrow stair way leading up to the roof. Five mages, Six enforcers all holding their breath as the intricate spells were chipped away. Not a single person was not in use. We’re not prepared for whatever they would have to do. All they had to do was get past one single door. One single door that might just lead to the latest tragedy in their ranks.
“We’re good.” The last mage shouted as the magical barrier shattered and they shoved the door open to the beautiful summer air a pink to purple sunset above. All that was soon consumed by swirls of grey pluming haze.
Eyes darted around with baited breaths for any signs of an enemy.
One of the enforcers were the first to catch sight of movement, grasping their sword in preparation for an attack.
As some of the smoke cleared just a bit it revealed Long blonde hair that fell down a body dressed in white bandages. Sharp unrelenting eyes cut through even the thickest haze looking fiercer then any beast any of them had seen.
Hesitation ran through the ranks unsure whether they were bracing for battle. Whether this was an enemy or not.
The woman turned stepping a bit more into view her feet were bare and covered in blood and soot. Her movements revealed the flames.
Flames that for weeks after stories would speculate should have been wild as the eyes that froze them all in place with truths that could not be spoken. Question they could never receive answers to. Because they weren’t brave enough.
Stolen novel; please report.
The flames were controlled, pointed, only doing exactly what they were intended to in a steady blue flicker.
Through the ranks the District Commander who was called in to handle the latest developments, the latest tragedies pushed his way to the front.
“What is the meaning of this.” He boomed.
His gaze set on the woman. Whose legs shifted forward carrying her at a fluid speed that was unimaginable with the amount of damage that had still clearly was done to her body. She didn’t go for his neck as the beasts she would continue to be compared to would have. Like many thought she should have. No, instead she stood at a glaring military attention.
“Commander. I’m afraid that I couldn’t save the records and I’m afraid the consul will be unable to look into the case any further. It seems that I am not at my full capabilities, I am truly ashamed of myself.” She voiced into the death like silence that surrounded her.
The smoke that had cleared even more showed what looked like a battle blood scattered across the ground. Mixed with papers that were either all read fully consumed by flames or actively burning. The flames were the same shade of blue that the sky that was slowly being consumed by night. As blue as the sword jewels on the sword in her hands. A sword that looked dormant of all magic. Looked as if it couldn’t have possibly been used.
It seems it’s all burnt.” She breathed her gaze never breaking away from the district Commander. Before shifting and pulling papers out of her loose fit pants pockets. “All but my resignation.” She breathed. Holding it out toward the district commander between two fingers.
When he didn’t take it from her simply went blue in the face. She pushed it into his chest stepping forward breathing something that anyone with lower security clearance would believe the crowds didn’t hear before walking past him. The District Commander roared after her. But he couldn’t stop her. The Enforcers and Mages stood like rods not standing in her way.
They wouldn’t dare.
