Student Outreach

I hated the gym for a number of reasons and while chief among them was the running and the sweating and the hating being alive, the other major one was the locker room. It was a hard balancing act trying to not look at the other girls and yet not make it look like you weren’t looking. It was a mess but I was able to pick out three girls from AP Science. I wandered around pretending to look for my locker but trying to get a feel for each of them, two of them met my eyes as I passed by and acknowledged my presence. The third, a shorter girl with long straight brown hair and glasses however met my eyes for less than a second before looking away. She was about my height, light skinned with soft green eyes. She had the air of a shy friendly goodie-two-shoes.

I made a point of leaning up against the lockers next to her, there was no one else around and I could see her shiver slightly as she realized I wasn’t going to simply pass by and leave her alone. A part of me sympathized while I could talk to people; it wasn't something that came super naturally. I tended to avoid talking to people unless I had a really good reason. Unfortunately for the both of us, homework club was a really good reason.

“Hey, I’m Nichole, we have AP Science together.” I addressed her directly trying to keep my voice above a whisper but low enough the girls down the way wouldn’t easily overhear.

She didn’t respond at first. I think she was hoping I’d give up and go away but when she looked up at me I caught her eyes again.

“Griselda.” She said, trying not to sound defeated.

“What do you think of Ms.Voight?” I asked, trying to sound as casual as possible.

She shrugged and it looked like she was trying to shake this conversation like a bad habit. It was time to change tactics.

I softened my tone and lowered my voice to a whisper leaving a bit of genuine nervousness in. “Hey this might sound dumb but would you mind If I took you out for coffee or something after class?”

She looked up at me again, eyes slightly widened but looked away again the moment we made eye contact. I saw a bit of mild terror in her eyes that I was likely mirroring without trying. I know recruiting girls is supposed to be my responsibility but this is too much. It looked like she had completely locked up and I couldn’t blame her.

“If you have time I’ll be hanging around the flag for a while after school.” I sputtered out quickly and I headed off to my locker quickly to actually get changed. That had felt really awkward and bad, but certainly my best attempt at trying to ask a girl out. I just hope she actually showed up.

Of course that would never happen what kind of dumb lesbian would get a proposal like that and show up to the stupid meetup? Me, I am dumb lesbian, that’s how I ended up here in the first place.

Freyja please save my dumb gay ass from the stupids.
