I took the keycard and went up to the room as fast as I could, ofcourse I had to stop at the different nurses stations to ask for directions in this maze of a hospital. But once I found my way to the room I was sweating like a …. Well I was sweating a lot.

  I could hear Julie’s little voice on the other side laughing at something and Jasmine telling her to finish her food before she starts playing again. Hearing that made me smile as a weight started lifting off my shoulders. After taking a deep breath to calm my nerves I open the door and walk in, I first see Jasmine with a phone next to her ear, she smiles at me and puts it down.

  “I was just about to call Hector and see if you arrived yet.”

  “Yea, I jus….”

  Boom! Something slammed into my gut like a cannonball, and I went flying back out of the room and slammed into the wall across the hallway. I was dazed and seeing stars as my ribs felt like they were crushed by a boulder, soon however, I felt a warm glow envelope me and the pain and dizziness went away.

  “I’m sorry big brother, Mommy and Daddy are still helping me get better.” Looking down at my stomach I see as Julie was pressing her hands against my chest as her hands glowed in a greenish aura. She was using her Healing powers on me and judging by how fast I felt better, she was already quite powerful.

  I just chuckled as I ruffled her hair a bit.

  “I’m fine Julie, I promise. A little thing like you could never hurt me.”

  She giggled as she got up and held a hand out to me even though her standing up was just a hair shy of being the same height as me sitting down, but I humored her and grabbed her hand, What I wasn’t expecting was for her to haul me up like a sack of feathers and with enough strength that I had to catch myself because she pulled with enough strength to lift me into the air!

  “On second thought, maybe you could just a little.” I chuckled as she huffed while putting her hands on her hips and tilting her head upwards.

  “Now Juile, what did me and your dad say about using your powers? Just because we are in a better place for you, doesn’t mean you can just use them whenever you want young lady. Do we need to go over some more training exercises?” Jasmine said while looking at Julie pointedly.

  “No mama, I just wanted to show big brother that I wasn’t weak anymore.” Julie looked up at me with eyes threatening to unleash a torrent of tears and my heart just shattered as I crouched down and picked her up. I walked back into the room and put her down onto the bed.

  “I know your not weak anymore Julie, you made it to the other world so ofcourse your strong! But you need to control yourself a bit more ok? There aren’t a lot of people that can handle the stuff like I can.”

  We all chatted for a few minutes, afterwards Hector joined us and behind him was Rob. They both looked at me and motioned for me to follow them, they took me to the cafeteria and after grabbing a little food we sat in a far back corner where there was barely anyone around.

  “Is there a reason that you both made us sit over here? I’m guessing whatever it is has to do with Julie?”

  “Smart guess, Me and Rob were discussing about what to do now that Julie is on this side and we thought maybe you would be open to us moving out to the farm? Me and Jasmine decided to sell our house on earth and figure it out over here, but Rob suggested your farm before we think things out a bit more. I know you’re an adult with your own business now and adding your parents and little sister could be a downer but it would just be until we can find us our own place here that’s all I promise!” Hector even lowered his head to me which didn’t do anything but make me feel shitty for some reason.

  “You don’t have to ask Hector… Honestly, I just assumed you guys would move in with me from the beginning? As soon as I heard Julie was showing her powers and having a hard time back on Earth I was thinking that maybe we could try and move her over to the farm, but this just sped up my plan. So yes, I would love it if you guys could join me on the farm. You guys will love the Kwehs, they just stink a little bit but that’s easy to get over haha.”

  Hector sighed in relief as he smiled at me. “This is such a big help Jimmy. I was worried about what to do, we couldn’t just take Julie on missions with us… Atleast, not legally anyways.”

  “That’d also be super dangerous since both you and Jasmine take on the more dangerous hunting and extermination missions. But with me there, you won’t have to worry so much. But I do have to say this, I won’t be around to babysit forever. This side is a jungle and it follows that rule to the T. We need to get Julie strong enough to atleast defend herself at the bare minimum.”

  Rob sat there silently for the most part while only adding maybe a little opinion here or there, but it was mostly me and Hector talking about how it would look going forward as far as the 3 of them living with me on the farm. They would join me in working to make the farm run as smoothly as possible, feeding, milking, things like that. As far as Julie’s training went, well that was something that we had to discuss with Jasmine as well.

  A whole hour went by before Jasmine called us to let us know the doctor was discharging Julie. After making sure everything was packed up and we were ready, we left the hospital and loaded up into Robs vehicle. By now it was way past sundown when Rob arrived at the farm to drop us off. He stayed around for a bit to help us unload and move their luggage inside.

  By then I ran over to the shed and turned on the fence line, tonight was not the night for some beast to try and grab a meal.

  “I see you kept the fence wired up, how much does that run you exactly?” Hector said as he joined me on a night walk around the barn. I decided that it would be best to go for a little patrol and check out the fence line nightly, at the very least check the backsides of the buildings. I noticed that a couple of the buildings were a little too close to the fence for my comfort, but there wasn’t much I could do about it, So I just made those spots a frequent area to visit.

  “I would say it runs about a 1/4th of expenses, give or take that is. I know we had a full moon a few days back and almost the whole day was nonstop attacks from beasts, but nothing made it over thankfully.” Not like I was all too worried anyways with my pets and everything.

  “Oh yea! I need to introduce you all to my pets! I got 3 of them. I say we head home and whip up some dinner and I’ll let them out.”

  I was giddy about showing my pets off to my family, if they were going to be living with us then they would have to get used to them eventually. Me and Hector finished the patrol after about an hour and went back to the house where Jasmine had made herself home in the kitchen and was already whipping up a thing of roast for us all. I could see as there were potatoes and corn, onions and carrots all just boiling together with the grease and oil from the beef… MMMMM Smells delicious!

  “I hope you don’t mind Jimmy, we haven’t really had anything except a little at the hospital so I thought it’d be nice to throw something together real quick for us.” She looked kinda shy about it but I reassured her that this was her home now and that she was more than welcome to cook. I also told her and Julie about my pets and Julie instantly got excited about seeing them and wouldn’t sit still anymore, so we went outside while waiting for the food and I opened up the cube portal, Julie was mystified by this thing and went to touch it. I quickly grabbed her hand to stop her just in case something bad happened.

  “Don’t touch this ok? I don’t know what would happen since I’m the only one that is allowed to go through it, and since my pets are basically an extension of me, they are allowed inside as well. I’m sorry Julie, Maybe one day I’ll show you what’s on the other side. But for right now just step back so my friends can come out.”

  First was Rhonda, Jasmine and Hector weren’t too surprised that I got a Kweh as my first tame, but they were surprised when I told them that I could communicate telepathically with her.

  Next was Shadow, and before he could even get all the way through the portal Julie launched like a rocket at him and started petting him and giving him hugs.

  “OMG HE IS ADORABLE!” Jasmine yelled as she came over and gave shadow some love too, he looked up at me with a look that said ‘help me!’ I just shook my head and told him that he would get meat if he just dealt with it. That seemed to placate him and with a little belly rub and some head scritches, he was already changing his tune.

  “Now, this next little guy is a bit different so I don’t want you to get scared ok? He is a sweet heart I swear, it’s just that he looks a bit different…” I prewarned the family before I had Boney come out. I leaned down and picked him up while Julie stopped petting Shadow to come over and get a closer look at Boney. She stared at him and cocked her head to the side like she was trying to figure out what he was. Almost like a mirror, Boney cocked his head to the side as he was trying to figure her out aswell.

  “Are you sure this is ok Jimmy? I mean… Isn’t that…” Jasmine left the question hand in the air and I nodded my head.

  “He is the result of my power to an extent, but he attached too me as the first thing he saw when he hatched from the egg. I promise it’s safe.”

  Boney started to make rattling sound and I looked down to see that Julie was poking his ribs, I guess he was a little ticklish there and so he was bobbing up and down

  “Do you want to hold him Julie?”

  “Can I?” She looked from me to Boney. “Is that ok with you Boney?” She asked while holding out her hands. Boney just looked at me for a second to make sure it was ok with me before hopping down and with a little flapping of his bone wings, he landed onto her hands. She giggled a little and started to really get a good look at him, Now that he was in front of me I was getting a good look as well.

  When he first hatched, he was a see through skeleton but now, it was like a thick darkness was living inside of his rib cage. He also looked a little bigger too? I looked at Rhonda and asked her what they had been doing in the portal farm and she just told me that they had been eating and planting this whole time.

  I showed her how to plant her food for times like this where they would be in the portal farm for extended periods of time, but I don’t think there was anything that could increase their growth in a short time? Maybe something rare grew… Ahwell something to think about later.

  We hung around outside while everyone got used to eachother and before we knew it, a couple hours passed by and it was time for dinner, well late dinner I suppose. It was amazing and reminded me of the meals I used to eat when I lived back on Earth, it made me nostalgic for those easier days...

  Pretty soon it was time for Julie to lay down for bed so I showed them up to the rooms, I let Jasmine and Hector take the master since that bed was a king and I moved back into my old room, there was another guest room that was mainly used for storage but it had a bed in there, so we laid Julie down in that room and planned to clean it out as soon as we could. I said goodnight to Hector and Jasmine and laid down on my bed.

  “Ahhhh, Full belly and a warm blanket makes it so easy to sleep.”
