Chapter Five: Azure Falls
He dragged the wooden tub aside with a dry creak, making way for the other person to head towards the well.
The magic apprentice gave a more than 90-degree bow in an exaggerated manner and ran towards the well with small quick steps.
Qianjin watched the other's back and footsteps, very suspicious that at such a speed, she would accidentally trip over something and fall headfirst into the well, thoroughly finishing herself off.
Fortunately, the situation of Gan Jing's suspicion did not occur. The magic apprentice threw a bucket with a rope into the well and made a loud noise, which was the sound of the wooden bucket sinking into the well to fetch clear water.
Then, the magic apprentice started her arduous water-carrying work. Her body didn't look particularly robust, and it was rare for a magician's body to be exceptionally strong.
Qian Jin watched as the other person struggled to turn the wooden roller for half a day, only managing to turn it one circle, and estimated that they had barely managed to lift the water bucket off the surface of the water. Finally, he couldn't bear it anymore.
As a warrior, he couldn't help but feel anxious for others who were struggling to pull the water bucket. To dispel this anxiety, he got up and walked over to the magic apprentice's side, his hand reaching out to grab the shaking wooden handle of the pulley.
The magic apprentice was clearly startled by Qianjin's movement, and the huge magic hat behind him flashed with a look of surprise and fear, staring at Qianjin without moving.
"You're a female magician, and doing this kind of rough work is quite troublesome."
With a dry and vigorous motion, he quickly shook the wooden handle with one hand, and the hemp rope wound around the wooden wheel circle after circle. He didn't notice at all that the wheel which usually required both hands to shake was easily taken care of today with just one hand.
The apprentice's big round eyes hiding behind the giant magic hat stared blankly at him without blinking.
"Give it to him."
Qianjin poured the clear water from the bucket into the wooden basin on the ground where the magic apprentice was sitting, without caring about the other's gaze, and turned back to busy himself with his bed sheet.
The dry movement is very fast, and the bed sheet with sweat stains does not need too much trouble. After washing once with clean water, it will be clean after rinsing again with clean water.
He fetched a bucket of water and poured it into the wooden tub, watching as the female magic apprentice scrubbed clothes with all her might. After a moment's thought, he fetched another bucket of warm water and placed it beside her tub.
The female magic apprentice lifted her wet hands and wiped her forehead, those big eyes that seemed to be able to speak stared curiously at this warrior who looked a bit too familiar, with a hint of gratitude sneaking out from the corner of her eyes.
"Alright, done!" Qianjin lifted the sheet out of the basin filled with clear water, admiring his handiwork with great satisfaction. He quickly wrung it together and then suddenly used force to squeeze out the water from it.
Hiss...... Squeak......
A crisp sound of fabric being torn apart came from beside the quiet well, clearly entering the ears of the man and woman.
The female magic apprentice looked up, gazing at the back of Gan Jing standing not far in front of her. Her eyes sparkled with surprise as she stared at him. Although she wasn't a warrior, just a small magic apprentice, she knew that bed sheets were sturdy items and it wasn't easy to tear them apart bare-handed, let alone twisting them together and suddenly twisting them so hard that the sheet was torn apart.
"This is..."
Qianjin stared at the bed sheet in his hand that had been twisted to shreds, and for a moment he was stunned on the spot. What kind of thing is this? The bed sheet was actually twisted to shreds by his full strength? How is this possible? In the past, washing bed sheets also used full force to twist, why hadn't he encountered such a thing before? Could it be that his own strength had really increased?
Qian Jin shook his head repeatedly, and had never heard of such a thing in this world where someone's strength could increase greatly overnight.
Whether it's the elders of the family or Mr. Rodriguez, they have all said that everything in this world has to be done step by step, and a magnificent holy city can't be built overnight.
Has the strength really increased? Qian Jin looked at the bed sheet in his hand, which was like a mop, with a bitter face. Obviously, this situation is not the time to study whether the strength has increased or not. Buying a bed sheet is currently the top priority, otherwise, there will be no bed sheet to cover tonight. The school's mattress does not have a bed sheet, and it is even more uncomfortable to sleep.
Bed sheet? Qian Jin raised his hand and gently rubbed his forehead, it seems that another unexpected expense is going to be added. Ever since leaving the family, almost all sources of income need to be self-sufficient. If relying on the family's allowance for food, one can only be half-full, let alone add clothes and other living expenses for oneself.
"It seems I have to go to the store and take a look, see if there's any simple job of carrying sacks."
Qianjin threw the sheet into the wooden basin, some of them looked down at the remaining quilt cover in the wooden basin with a dejected expression, if they messed this up too, then the trouble would be even greater.
A hand that wasn't particularly large quietly reached into the wooden basin from the side and touched the quilted jacket that was still soaking in water.
Following the direction of the hand, I saw that it was a magic apprentice wearing a large glasses on his nose, a big wizard hat on his head, and a wide wizard robe. He carefully took out the thing from the basin, with eyes like a frightened little white rabbit, and both hands were twisting the quilt cover with all his might.
The magic apprentice really used all his strength, and Qianjin even believed that the other party had used up the energy to drink milk, with half of his smiling face blushing, his body still slightly trembling.
It has to be admitted that although the power of a magic apprentice is very small, it's already enough to deal with this quilted jacket.
"Thanks." Qian Jin put away the quilt cover and said with a smile: "If you have any physical work in the future, just come to me. Remember, I'm Qian Jin from the Warrior Department's first year."
"Ma... second-year magic student..." The magic apprentice hung her head, only looking at the tips of her toes, her voice was weak and timid, barely audible. Gankai strained his ears to hear her name amidst the shy and tense tone.
"Second year? Beryl?" Dryly sizing up the magic apprentice, this girl looked like she was fourteen years old in both appearance and physique. She's actually sixteen years old already, it really can't be told, too hard to tell!
